Stage 6 - Wind, Snow and Up Again

This poster at the right pretty well sums up the day.

We climbed out of Dubois with a steady headwind. The continental divide was 30 miles away and about 2700 feet up. When we got about 8 miles from the top it started to snow. Another added "adventure". It was quite cold as you can imagine. The snow pellets melted on contact so the temperature was probably in the mid thirties. We crested the pass at 9658 feet. Coming down the other side was a bit risky on the narrow road and in about 6 miles we hit major construction. They had a pilot "pickup" so we loaded the bikes in the back and rode for about 4 miles through the mess, dirt road, etc.

Since we were a day ahead of our itinerary we decided to split this 80 mile day into two forties. By this time we were glad we did. We are staying at Grand Teton Park about 4 miles from Moran Junction. Tomorrow we will go the remaining 40 miles to Jackson Hole.

The evening is beautiful, the wind has died down and I'm going out to take some pictures of the sunset.

Staying at Moron Junction eh? Seems fitting.
