Day 12 - Tough Ride

We had a wonderful night on Hebgen Lake. In the morning we took this picture in front of Sage the bison. The Yellowstone Holiday Fishing Resort definitely had the best showers yet on our Epic Adventure...I took 2!! Our ride took us on Hwy 287 ...past Hebgen Lake Dam...where we spoke to the Dam Supervisor about the leak in the lake...ask Rhett about it...then past Quake Lake...google it and find out the story...it is amazing. We had a great tailwind for a good 40 miles...it was awesome...we ate lunch in Ennis at Cowboy Heaven Coffee Bar...we ate outside and didn't see one cowboy. I was very dissapointed. Right after lunch the tough part began....we climbed 2,000 feet in about 7-8 miles. (BTW...the pick up trucks go 70 mph...and don't really care for cyclists it seems to me.) Rhett beat us all by a good 10 -15 minutes...he is a good sport riding with us more mature folks! Lois and Dell were parked at the scenic overlook, and I nearly jumped in the rig instead of riding the rest of the way up...I rallyed and rode...and finally we reached the top...you could tell we were at the top, because we saw the yellow sign with the truck going down a steep hill...7% grade and a truck runaway ramp! We rode past the ghost towns of Virginia City and Nevada City...but remember...we are in Montana. We are parked at the most expensive KOA yet...so we are taking long hot showers...and using our free wifi :) 80+ miles today...Tim got a flat 500 yards from the campground...we will sleep well tonight ...a 95 mile day with a couple of good climbs tomorrow...I am going to bed right now!! Love and miss you all...Terry and the Epic's.
