Dayt 14, 15 and 16 - Ridin' Fast

Sorry we've been out of touch. We are in the "outback" of Montana and just today crossed over into Idaho, one state away from home. No WiFi to be found and when the campground hosts say they have it . . . well it doesn't work so well. Anyway, day 14 we rode 77 miles from Jackson to Darby, MT. We froze the first 18 miles of that ride. We were in a great, meaning large, Montana valley and a heavy fog had settled in to block out the sun. It was probably in the 30's and we were riding 18-20 mph so the wind chill was right down there. Terry wasn't exactly cussin' but she was making these unusual sounds, kind of a hybrid between brrrrrrrrrrrr and uggggghhhhhhh. Maybe she'll do it for you when we arrive back in Seattle.

Then yesterday we rode extra mileage to make our day a bit easier today. We rode 81 miles to Lolo Hot Springs which was about 75% up to Lolo Pass. We had steak and ribs at the local bar and paid our $7 to soak in the hot springs. We were too tired to play 99 so we packed it in and hit the hay.

Today there was frost on my tent which is getting to be a regular occurrence. The locals say it hasn't been this cold, this early for years. Riiiight! Anyway, we left mid-morning after the sun had at least warmed things into the 40's and made for Lolo Pass. Except for the last 2-3 miles the entire ride up (30 miles including yesterday) was a very gradual climb in great scenery. After Lolo we followed the river for eighty miles to Lowell, ID. The road was lightly traveled and wound its way along the river. The only challenge was there were absolutely no services for 60 some miles. We finally caught up to the RV and ate lunch at around 2 pm. Now we are settled into a campground along the river in Lowell.

That's all there's time for as I don't want to miss dinner. There are some pictures I'll try to upload later but in order to get WiFi, I have to walk from one end of the campground to the other practically holding my laptop high in the air (not really, once I found out the building in which it was located, I settled down on a bench to write this.

Nice work team! I am glad to see Mom getting used to being a hardcore cyclist. Tell Rhett it's the last day to buy your season's pass before the price increase!
